LIFE mustn’t be too tough under house arrest for Oscar Pistorius.
A selfie has emerged of the Paralympian sprinter grinning with a friend which appears to show the fallen star for the first time since his
release from prison.
Time behind bars may have taken its toll, with the 28-year-old looking paler and thinner than ever before.
Rugby player Brett Sharman posted the picture on social media sometime in the week after Pistorius was released from prison. Sharman, who had the double amputee as his best man at his October 2014 wedding, has since deleted the image following a public backlash.
“It was a stupid thing to do,” Sharman told South Africa’s You magazine.
He claimed the picture was taken before Pistorius was sent to prison on October 21 last year but declined to say when it was taken.
The ‘Blade Runner’ was found guilty of culpable homicide — a charge equivalent to manslaughter — after telling the court that he shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp four times through a bathroom door because he mistook her for an intruder.
He was released from prison last month for good behaviour to serve the remainder of his five-year prison sentence at his uncle’s Pretoria mansion.
His sentence is under appeal at the moment, with prosecutors arguing he should have been convicted for murder.
The prosecution maintains Pistorius killed Steenkamp in a fit of rage, firing the four shots through the locked door.
They described him as an egotistical liar obsessed with guns, fast cars and beautiful women, who was not prepared to take responsibility for his actions.
